MTV Reveals Two New Music Videos

The first video is of Eminem ft Rihanna's Love The Way You Lie. I am very happy to see they have realsed the full album version and not the terrible radio edit, which totally ruins Eminems song.

The second video is Kanye's more artistic video for his singlr Power. He compared his latest video to a moving painting. Kanye takes his music videos very seriously as we have learnt at the VMA's every year.

Kanye has only so far released his clip of his moving painting, but it has done exactly the job he wanted it to. It has caused controversy throughout newspapers, spawned decoding videos on youtube. A lot of critics have claimed that power has gone to Kanye West's head however we believe Kanye is back on form, challenging the boundaries of a music artist, and exploring his love for fine art, women, and fashion

Mercury Prize

The bands on the shortlist for the 19th annual awards were announced today (July 20) at a ceremony hosted by Lauren Laverne at The Hospital Club in London.

As expected the list of twelve artists included some of the most successful albums of the past twelve months including The XX and their debut XX, Mumford And Sons’ Sigh No More and Only Revolutions by Biffy Clyro.

One familiar name on the list was Dizzee Rascal who’s fourth album Tongue N Cheek has earned him his third nomination. Dizzee won the Mercury Prize in 2003 for his debut Boy In Da corner and was also nominated in 2007 for Maths + English.

Critically acclaimed releases from former Villagers, Wild Beasts and Foals are also featured.

Manchester’s I Am Kloot’s ten year career has been rewarded, as their fifth album ‘Sky At Night’ (produced by Guy Garvey and Craig Potter from 2008 Mercury winners Elbow) received a nomination as well.

It’s traditional that the Mercury nominations include a few surprises and lesser known acts, this year however only the inclusion of piano-led jazz outfit the Kit Downes Trio prompted a few puzzled expressions at the announcement.

Last year London-born, hip-hop newcomer Speech Debelle won the award for her debut Speech Therapy. However despite the usual media coverage, the album failed to make an impact on the charts, with Music Week claiming it sold fewer than 13,000 copies.

Traditionally though, winners such as Elbow, Antony & The Johnsons and Talvin Singh have enjoyed a massive boost in sales, and in recent years even the nominees can expect their albums to re-enter the Top 40 charts.

The overall winner of the 2010 Prize will be decided and announced at an awards show on Tuesday September 7.

The full list of nominees is:

Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions
Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea
Dizzee Rascal - Tongue N' Cheek
Kit Downes Trio - Golden
Foals - Total Life Forever
I Am Kloot - Sky At Night
Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can
Mumford And Sons - Sigh No More
Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation
Villagers - Becoming A Jackal
Wild Beasts - Two Dancers
The XX - XX

Appeal for festival Attacker. Can you Help Find These Scumbags.

Police are appealing for witnesses to assaults on women at various festivals this summer, with five attacks at three festivals.

Police on the Isle of Wight are issuing a fresh appeal for witnesses after an allegation of indecent assault at the Isle of Wight Festival. Police are appealing for witnesses after an allegation of indecent assault that happened during the Isle of Wight Festival on the last night of the festival, Sunday, 13th June 2010. Between 8.00pm and 9.00pm, a 19-year-old woman was near the 'Big Top' area of the Festival site. She was approached by an unknown man who tried to pull her into the Big Top and in doing so indecently assaulted her. The woman pushed him away and went to the nearest security guard to report the incident.

Anyone with information should contact Newport Police Station by phoning 101 or 0845 045 45 45. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. People outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight should phone 0845 045 45 45.

At T in the Park an 18-year-old girl was raped in the back of a van after being abducted from the campsite. The girl was lured into the motor by at least two men - and was driven off before one of them sexually assaulted her.

Officers are also investigating another alleged sexual assault of a woman in her 20s. The woman was knocked to the ground and assaulted near the bus parking area on Saturday night. Tayside Police said her male attacker was disturbed by two women who were walking past. The force have also appealed for witnesses.

In appealing for witnesses to the incidents Tayside Police would ask that anyone who saw the incident, or indeed who may have captured any images on cameras or mobile phones, contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This weekend saw two sexual assaults happen on the site of Latitude festival. A nineteen year old girl was raped near one of the festival's camp sites on the Thursday night of the festival. The woman had left her tent in the red area of the campsite at about 10pm to 10.30pm to find the toilet but lost her bearings and approached a group of young men for help.

After walking with the group for some distance some of the males left to go in another direction while the other males led the victim off a path and into a wooded area where she was raped by at least one of them.

Police and festival organisers are appealing for information regarding the incident and asked anyone who may have seen a young woman wearing a yellow and cream top, black cardigan and jeans with a small group of men at the time of the incident to come forward. Police are searching for a man aged in his 20s with short dark curly hair and a cockney accent in connection with the alleged attack.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Suffolk police on 01473 613500. Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile festival organiser Melvin Benn told reporters on Friday: "Festival Republic are taking the allegation very seriously and are liaising closely with Suffolk Police in their investigation. We have significant sympathy for the victim of this most awful act and are so shocked that it should happen here."

A second rape then took place on Friday night, though it was unconnected to the first incident, and the victim seemingly knew her alleged attacker, who was arrested the next day.

Commenting on the impact the two incidents had had on the wider festival, Benn told reporters on Sunday: "I'm distraught by what has happened and I want to reassure the public that we are working very hard on this - we are all upset about this here. We can't ignore what has happened, but this really is an incredibly safe festival".

With V, Reading and Leeds still set to take place this summer, police are advising festival-goers to stay with friends, be aware of any potential trouble, and not to drink excessively or take drugs.

eFestivals would like to point out that this sort of assault at festivals occurs rarely and festival organisers and police forces take great strides to ensure that events are as safe as possible.

Festival organiser Melvin Benn added, "People are obviously entitled to be nervous. But these things, as awful as they are, are outside anyone's control. Whether it's at a festival or in a village or high street, there are people around who - either determinedly or opportunistically - will do such a thing."

Annual crime figures for this year's festivals actually show that events are actually safer this year, with recorded crime figures down at most events on last yea

Immersion

Sitting in front of screens has become an institutionalised part of our daily lives. Nearly
all of us do it, in fact you’re probably doing it right now as you read this article. With a
national average of over six hours of facing a screen each day, visual media has never
been so ingrained into our daily routines, especially when it concerns our leisure time.
With this in mind, Robbie Cooper’s new exhibition, ‘Immersion’, a photographic journey
into the portraits of everyday people as they sit absorbed by video games and films, is a
rare and personal insight into unguarded human emotion and their desire for withdrawal
from the real world into fantasy from the screen’s point of view.

Following a series of filming people through a screen with a red digital camera as they
watch and participate in different forms of media, Cooper has used stills from the footage
to create high density portraits that capture both the subtle and not so much instances of
human expression. The exhibition’s importance in an age where screen entertainment is
now one of the most popular leisure sources shows us the instances of human interaction
and passivity that surrounds it, creating images that go beyond the superficial and are at
once both amusing and dark.

Possibly the more poignant part of the exhibition focuses on the avatars from gamers
around the globe. Meeting with players of online worlds for his ‘Alter Ego’ collection,
Cooper fits their images to their virtual counterparts, most of whom bare unsurprising
similarity to each other and documents their gaming habits. The unassuming details
that sit next to each portrait, stating anecdotal facts like how long each gamer spends
per week as their character, with some spending as many as 70 hours, cannot help but
point out to the audience that a growing number of people are using this sort of media
to escape from everyday life in a way that has not really existed before. Conversational
snippets printed alongside them on the walls suggest that particularly amongst the
younger generation video games provide them with the opportunity to disappear into
a world where their social positions and expectations can be left behind in the hope of
integrating into a place where they can excel. Fed up with ‘fake relationships’ that they
create in real life in order to get ahead (or even get through the day) they have no qualms
with getting enjoyment from something that they see as more real despite its virtuality.
The exhibition seems to invite its viewers to question why people are choosing to opt-
out from reality altogether in a way that was not possible to older generations in a bid to
forget the problems and frustrations of everyday life and ask what effects this retreat into
escapism may have on society.

Robbie Cooper’s ‘Immersion’ exhibition is on display at the Bradford Media Museum
until 5th September. There is
